Overview
Dustin Reichert is a retired Deputy Sheriff from the Anoka County Sheriff’s Office in Andover, MN. Dustin began his law enforcement journey as a part time Deputy Sheriff with the Ramsey County Sheriff’s Office. He was later hired as a full time Deputy Sheriff for the Anoka County Sheriff’s Office, where he primarily served in the patrol division with a heavy focus on drug and alcohol enforcement. Dustin was the first certified Drug Recognition Expert (DRE) on his department and, later, a DRE instructor. He was also a Detective on the Anoka-Hennepin Drug and Violent Crimes Task Force and slated to return the fall before being injured. Dustin had a pure love for the service to his community.
In 2003, after almost 8 years in law enforcement, Dustin found himself in the midst of a violent gun battle in Andover, Minnesota on a simple loud music call. The incident resulted in a two-year battle to recover and return to active duty. Sadly, Dustin was medically retired due to his physical injuries and, although not part of his official reason to retire, Dustin found he was dealing with the lingering effects of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
He shared his story in the book “10-88! Officer Down” and now speaks to groups all over the country which helps him share his story, mental & emotional health, and the layers of PTSD and CPTSD, all of which brings him healing as well. He also works as a Teambuilding Specialist and a Professional Hypnotist.
On the personal side, Dustin cherishes his role as a devoted father to his three sons and husband to his wife, as well as his two cherished dogs, who have been constant companions along his journey.
