Field Teaching Officers Certification Course (FTO)

POST APPROVED 32 Hour FTO Certification Course (#10596-0025)

This 32-hour course is specifically designed for experienced personnel selected to serve as FTOs for probationary police officers. This course will prepare you to be an effective FTO using the L.E.T.A.C Field Teaching Model. As a LETAC FTO, you will know how to effectively teach probationary officers to be capable, compassionate and courageous police officers ready to bring policing into the future.

The new condensed schedule aims to enhance focus, provide a more efficient learning experience and improve engagement and retention while still delivering the best FTO content. You will hear from subject matter experts in adult learning, organizational culture, case law, employment law, mental health and wellness and learn from instructors who are experienced and successful FTOs. This comprehensive approach centers around better understanding your probationary officer, yourself, and what conditions create effective learning.

You will not only learn the LETAC FTO Model, you will gain experience through practical exercises, role playing and scenarios while modeling adult learning strategies you will use as an FTO. Building upon this foundation, focus is given to advanced techniques for struggling probationary officers. You will complete DORs, end of week and end of phase assessments, review BWC footage, and evaluate probationary officer performance in practical scenarios along with experienced FTOs, law enforcement officers and professional role playing actors.
